Review

Scaled-Down Cashback with Familiar Structure

The Bank Islam Visa Platinum Credit Card-i adopts a cashback structure similar to its Visa Infinite counterpart, but with simplified tiers and a significantly lower income requirement of RM36,000. It targets everyday spending rather than premium travel use.

The card offers 3% cashback on Online, Auto Billings, Grocery and Dining for monthly spending between RM500 and RM1,499.99, increasing to 5% once spending exceeds RM1,500. These four categories share a monthly cashback cap of RM30, which is identical to the Infinite tier despite the lower card positioning.

Overseas retail spending earns 1% cashback with a higher activation threshold of RM5,000 per month, capped at RM100. Local retail spending earns an unlimited 0.2% cashback once the monthly spend reaches RM500, serving more as a baseline rebate than a primary reward driver.

While the Platinum version removes airport lounge access, it retains Free Takaful Coverage, including Travel Accident Personal Coverage up to RM1,000,000 and Group Family Takaful. Annual fees are also easy to manage, with a straightforward waiver condition of 12 transactions per year.

Verdict: The Bank Islam Visa Platinum Credit Card-i works as a practical everyday cashback card for users who spend consistently on online services, groceries, dining, and recurring bills. While its cashback ceiling is modest, the familiar structure, lower entry barrier, and Shariah-compliant coverage make it a sensible step-down alternative to the Infinite tier.

Pros

  • Lower income requirement with a familiar cashback structure
  • Same RM30 monthly cap on core spending categories as the Infinite version
  • Tiered cashback rewards everyday online, grocery and dining spend
  • Free Takaful coverage included
  • Annual fee easily waived with 12 transactions per year

Cons

  • Shared RM30 cashback cap limits upside despite multiple eligible categories
  • Overseas cashback requires a high monthly spending threshold
  • Cashback rates are moderate compared to specialised cashback cards
