A Straightforward Points Card for Daily Spending

The Bank Islam Mastercard Platinum Credit Card-i is the points-based counterpart to the Visa Platinum cashback card, targeting users with a minimum annual income of RM36,000. Instead of cashback, it focuses on TruPoints accumulation, particularly for contactless and petrol transactions.

Cardholders earn 2x TruPoints on contactless and petrol spending, as well as 1.5x TruPoints on overseas card-present transactions, both subject to a minimum monthly spend of RM2,000 and a monthly cap of 5,000 TruPoints. All other retail spending earns 1x TruPoint per RM1 with no cap.

In practical terms, TruPoints can be converted into airline miles (primarily Malaysia Airlines Enrich), but the effective cost per mile remains relatively high at this tier. As a result, the card is better viewed as a general-purpose points card rather than a dedicated miles-earning tool.

Beyond rewards, the card includes Free Takaful Coverage with travel accident protection of up to RM1,000,000 and group family coverage. Digital wallet support for Google Pay and Samsung Pay makes it convenient for contactless usage, which aligns well with its reward structure.

Verdict: The Bank Islam Mastercard Platinum Credit Card-i is a simple, Shariah-compliant entry-level points card suited for users who prefer contactless and petrol spending and want basic rewards without focusing on premium travel perks or lounge access.

  • TruPoints redemption value for air miles is relatively weak
  • Points structure offers limited upside for heavy or overseas spenders
